Matcha culture can become needlessly ceremonial. We love the objects and the pause, but the everyday version should still be simple enough to make before the first meeting.

Sift a small amount into a warm bowl, add water that is hot but not boiling, and whisk briskly in a loose W until a fine foam appears. Add more water or warm milk depending on the day.

Good matcha tastes vivid rather than aggressively bitter. Store it sealed and cool, drink it because you enjoy it, and let the minute of whisking be the ritual—not another performance of wellness.

A ritual only works when it fits an ordinary day.
